AIM VIRUS (new)
Ok, if a person gets this, they would auto message to their whole buddy list:
this is cool check it out
(dont click link)
And if you click it, you get the virus, and you spread it out. I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of it....
Sigh start with microsoft anti-spyware!

Thanks for the info -- but I'm thinking a lot of this is common sense anyway.

Anti-spyware probobly won't work. I'd say try an anti-virus program if you have it. If you don't try SARC.com. It's run by symantec and they usually have free removal tools for individule viruses if you can figure out which one you have. You can use http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ to find that out.
Unfortunatly sometimes different anti-virus companies name viruses differently so that might not work, but its worth a shot. You really should probobly just buy an anti-virus program (I like Norton) if you don't already have one, although I guess that makes me a hypocrite, not having one myself.
Oh, and I don't know why you'd want to use Microsoft anti-spyware when you can get ad-aware free from lavasoftusa.com. In my experience it more more reliably keeps computers clean of spyware.

I agree, but Spybot Search and Destory is probably a better bet than AdAware.

Try using AimFix if it's an aim-related problem (which i'm gathering it is).

Anyone know the site to report trojans/viruses too? I think there is a site (government owned) that checks a trojan/virus and when they find the source, shut the site down.

Try the scans out and see if they work. If not contact the AIM services to see what they can do about it.

Don't contact AIM (which is just one IM company). This is not a vulnerability in their software. Most of these "AIM" virus infections are a result of stupid people with unpatched, unprotected systems. If you want to be safe, keep up to date on your definitions and don't click on stupid links. Better yet, check the location of the URL before you visit it!
I can honestly say, don't waste your time contacting the FBI or government about this kind of stuff. If its a virus that actually causes problems, they probably already know about it.

AGREE Danny...
Most ALL folks that I know who have been infected with viruses or spyware on their computers left it unprotected. The computer was like a sitting duck.

The other thing that you guys could remember is to use programs like pidgin or trillion or digsby etc. Almost all of this stuff can't spread through the 3rd party software not to mention its lighter and you don't have to deal with the ads.
Cheers
